Fighting Cancer Isn't Just About Treatment.
Making Life Easier.
My best friend Tena was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer three years ago. Stage 3. She barely took time off of work, battled through chemotherapy and radiation, both of which left her very, very weak, yet she still managed to work at home and get done what needed doing with very little support from anyone other than myself and her family.
Now her cancer has come out of remission. She's now fighting a new battle, with new treatments and new chemotherapy that will cause her to depend more on not only her friends and family, but the numerous agencies in that support cancer fighters.
Through her battle, I have met and talked with many brave and courageous people who not only are fighting cancer, but who have lost their battle with cancer. These people have had terrible times with insurance companies, state offices, the general fighting one has to do when in need of quality medical care to save their lives. But, they also fight another kind of battle, and generally, they fight it alone.
What I'm talking about is the day to day struggle to keep things done. Running the sweeper, doing the dishes, cooking meals, doing yard work. Things that you and I take for granted because we're generally grumbling while we're doing them. These are things that many cancer patients can not do. While there are many volunteer groups out there who help out cancer patients, they are so overwhelmed that they can't reach every one that needs them. One organization prepares meals, that are microwaveable and will bring out 30 days worth of meals, snacks and drinks for a month. One organization offers free housecleaning services. They have a backlog that will take over 3 months to catch up on. There are so many in need and so few volunteers. Also, money is a factor. It costs money for the food and cleaning supplies. Not to mention the quantities of fuel that these volunteers are using while trying to help everyone who asks them.
Just ask any local service agency. They are overwhelmed and under budgeted. That's where I want to make a difference. Like many other people, my time is always booked up with one thing or another. I do my share of volunteering. However, funding, in any amount would make these volunteer agencies jobs so much easier.
Many people know me as a person who will fight to the last for a cause I believe in. However, this is one fight I can not fight alone. I need the help and support of the world to do this! Please visit the "Donate" page to see how you can assist!
